Selecting the Colors for your Wedding

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Traditionally, a couple will have two colors that they use for their wedding. This is the theme that will be used for things such as the bridesmaid’s dresses, the decorations, the invitations, and the cake. With all that in mind, you definitely want to choose colors you love. You will be seeing plenty of them! You also want to select two colors that work well with each other.

It is a good idea to select your wedding colors after you know the location for the wedding and for the reception. Otherwise there is a risk that what you go with can clash with what is in place at those locations. Then those colors can become a distraction for you and your guests instead of a lovely way to enhance the beauty of your wedding day.

Think about the type of atmosphere that you would like to create on your wedding day. Light colors can give a very soft and romantic atmosphere. If you want something that is more lively consider bold colors that are very vibrant. Many people take the season of the year when they are getting married into consideration too when they choose their wedding colors.

For example in the spring and summer months lighter colors are more appealing. In the fall and the winter then darker colors seem to emerge more often. You way want to take that same approach for your wedding colors as well. Your own background may be the biggest influence though when it comes to the colors you will use.

Many people and even cultures associate different colors with different meanings. If that is something that you do, then it is only fitting you will want to use colors in your wedding that are reflective of your feelings you wish to share for the day. If a particular color influences your mood or your emotions then they may draw you to them when selecting the colors you are going to use.

Many people realize that certain colors aren’t good for them. For example individuals with a very pale complexion can look drawn out in bright colors such as yellow or red. No one wants to look less than their very best on their wedding day. Therefore finding colors that are complimentary of your own tone is very important.

Have fun exploring different options when it comes to deciding on your two wedding colors. That way you don’t feel rushed into it and you don’t regret your decision later on. Keep the idea of how you will use those colors in mind as well so that you know what is going to be a good fit and what won’t.

For example you don’t want the groomsmen to feel uncomfortable if they have to wear a shade of pink. You also don’t want your bridesmaids to be upset over the color of their dresses. If you choose colors that work well for the entire wedding you are going to love the outcome.

It is a good idea to explore what you can find in the two colors you have selected before you commit to them for the wedding. If you can’t find decorations or other items in one of the given colors then you may have a struggle through all the planning stages of your wedding. You don’t want to make the process one that is often held up so just make sure your colors are out there in good supply.

In the end, the two colors that are selected for the wedding are completely up to the couple. Sometimes they will choose the favorite color of each of them to be able to combine them – a symbol of each of them and then being joined as one during the wedding ceremony.
