How to make a winning bet for Melbourne Cup 2009

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Well your here and you want to win and make a lot of money right?.

My first piece of advice is to head to Sport Bet Australia to look at their odds table generally an odds table is a good source of basic information to help you make a bet, the higher the number the less likely the horse is to win but if it wins the higher the number the better.

So far this year there has been a lot of speculation about which horse will win, but the current favourite is ‘Viewed’ who was trained by legendary trainer Bart Cummings who is otherwise known as the ‘Cup King’ with good reason, winner of 12 Melbourne Cups he is considered the worlds best thorough bred trainer. However just because a horse has been trained by the Cup King doesn’t mean that it will win this years cup. A horse that should be taken into consideration that many may have missed is Leica Ding.

Leica Ding forced her way into the cup with a fast finishing win in the Geelong Cup, which is the same race that Bauer won last year before coming second to ‘Viewed’ in the cup, the difference however is that ‘Leica Ding’(50.5kg) won’t be carrying a(58kg)s much weight as ‘Bauer’ did and definitely no where near as much as ‘Viewed’  will be carrying this cup. Another thing to take into consideration is that the ‘Leica Ding’ has never met any of the other horses before in competition so it’s not possible to measure her against the other horses running and she could be a proverbial ‘dark horse’ in the event.

But as a rider myself I know that what the news is reporting and what the odds tables are saying can’t always be used to make the right decision, the most important thing to making a winning choice and the thing that is overlooked by my most people is the Horse it self on the day, as it is led around for the crowd to view it be sure to look for any signs that it may not perform. Horses that appear jumpy or lame are a great way to lose a lot of money where as a calm horse with its ears forward and walking quietly is at ease and probably the best choice to make. A jumpy horse my rear and hurt it self in the stalls prior to the event even starting or it can lame itself by misbehaving. In general the calmest and most alert looking horse is the safer choice the the horse with a funny name or the horse that everyone considers the favourite, think about ‘Whobegotyou’ the Caulfield Cup favourite he didn’t win or place.

If you are thinking about betting on the Melbourne Cup tomorrow be sure to bet with Sport Bet Australia the wide range of free bets means that you can put some money down and then get up to $200 added on top of your bet which is some serious cash when betting on horse racing. Best of luck with your bet this year!
